Listed below are the basic ceremony sections. The order can be changed and certain sections can be left off if desired.
Gathering words:
This is a greeting to all that have attended and a discussion of what will be taking place. We discuss the ritual of marriage.
Opening prayer or blessing:
This need not be religious. This can be more of a charge to the people in attendance to bless the couple and send forth positive energy.
Support from family:
This is where someone 'gives' the Bride away. This can also be done as having someone stand in support of both the Bride and the Groom.
Charge to couple:
This is where the meaning of marriage is discussed, along with advice on how to be successful at it.
Consent:
This is where the vows come into play, either written by the couple, or selected from a number of different ones.
Exchange of Rings:
The couple exchanges rings.
Pronouncement:
The couple is pronounced married by the Officiant.
Additional sections:
• Unity Candle • Sand ceremony • Wine Ceremony • Candle-lighting ceremony • Dove/Butterfly release • Ribbon ceremony • Flower ceremony • Breaking of the glass • Moment of Silence/ Moment of Remembrance • Selected readings
For all of these sections, I have a number of different readings to use, some that I have created and some that have been written by others. I will also gladly use any reading or additional ideas you might want to use. You can even create your own!
